NGA Highlights: Albert Namatjira
There’a small exhibition of Albert Namatjira’s paintings at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) in Canberra.
These works are just one of the many gems to be seen at the NGA.
This post is the first in a series to highlight such gems. For some reason the gallery does not advertise most of the exhibitions outside those that are deemed to be special.
Because of this, you would be lucky to know this exhibition awaits you given how the NGA website presents the institution to the world (more on this problem in a later post).
Deep inside their website are some interesting links to their holdings on Albert Namatjira. Here’s another – click here – this one provides images of the works on exhibition.
The NGA In 2002 celebrated the centenary of Namatjira’s birth with a major retrospective.
The present exhibition is in a back room within the special indigenous art wing above the front door and is well worth the visit.
