Opening of new visual arts at Te Papa
We all remember when the New Zealand National Gallery of Art disappeared and was consumed in to the new Museum of New Zealand Te Papa.
It didn’t work.
The national collection disappeared and the profile of New Zealand’s National Gallery and its collection was no more. When visiting New Zealand recently it was very noticeable that not much of its national collections are easily accessible.
March this year saw the appearance of a significant new space within Te Papa for the National Gallery collections and temporary exhibitions. Still unconvinced and maybe this requires a visit to Wellington to check it out.
So we wait to see if the international profile can be restored.
Meanwhile here’s a review in ArtLink May 2018.
